Barroso avoids the word crisis in regard to Romania - Versiune grafica
In full scandal of the Coalition, the President of Romania, Traian Basescu, is for two days in Brussels, on his first visit to the European institutions after the accession of Romania to EU. He said from Brussels that Romania is not in a political crisis as long as it has an operational government.

“The democratic and political disputes” are frequent in the older member states of the European Union “they should not blame only the newcomers in the Union,” said in his turn the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso.

Although a reaction of the European officials to the situation from Romania was expected, the President of the European Commission only smiled at the journalists present at the press conference after the discussions with Basescu, avoiding diplomatically to pronounce the word crisis,” but he cautioned, also smilingly, that the reforms must continue in Romania in order to maintain the economic growth necessary in order to fill up the gap separating it from the countries from the Union and in order to be able to spend the “important amounts” of money that will come from the Community budget. “The progress is crucial for Romania,” added Barroso, emphasizing that important is not only the quality, but also the quantity of the investments that will be made from the funds allotted from Brussels.

“The oldest countries members of the Union also have problems and no one says that they have an internal political crisis. Romania is obliged to solve its problems, and I do not believe that there are no solutions,” stated Barroso, adding that the Union had “various situations, in various countries, of turbulences normal in a democratic state, which lasted for months.”

Barroso also mentioned that he is happy that Romania backs the “European solidarity, the solution that will be proposed for the European Constitution and the energy package that the European Commission has recently proposed,” things resumed also by Basescu in his declarations.

In the context, the European official assured that the process of communication with the authorities from Bucharest is “normal” and appreciated favourably the activity of the Romanian Commissioner so far.
