Adrian Cioroianu nominated for Foreign Ministry - Versiune grafica
BUCHAREST - Liberal Vice-President Adrian Cioroianu was yesterday nominated by the PNL leadership for the Foreign Minister position, vacant after Mihai Razvan Ungureanu’s resignation. Cioroianu himself announced the nomination, adding that the vote was 28 to one in his favour.

President Traian Basescu received yesterday from PM Tariceanu the official paper saying Cioroianu is his choice for the Foreign Minister position.

According to Mediafax, Liberal sources say that the head of the state is not so happy with the nomination of Cioroianu for the Foreign Affairs Ministry. The quoted sources pointed out that President Basescu transmitted to PM Tariceanu that “Cioroianu does not have the capacity to continue the foreign policy line begun by Ungureanu.” The Premier has allegedly informed the members of PNL Political Bureau about Basescu’s message before submitting to vote the proposal to nominate Cioroianu.

The Democrat leader Emil Boc pointed out that he is unaware of the foreign policy competence of Cioroianu, but he believes that he could cope with this office. “It is the competence of PNL to designate its candidate for the office of Foreign Minister,” added Boc.

UDMR agreed with the nomination of Cioroianu. “I congratulate Mr. Cioroianu for this nomination. I know him as a trained person, and I believe that he has the skills to cope with this office,” declared the UDMR leader Marko Bela. The Social-Democrats stated yesterday that they had nothing against Cioroianu’s appointment, but added that they expected the Premier to present Parliament with a fully restructured Cabinet, rather than to “patch up” the current Executive formula.
