The tickets for the concert February 26 will be up for sale from February 1, for RON 100 each. The 380-seat Thalia Hall will host the event. The concerts in Sibiu by the instrumental ensemble of La Scala is part of the events in the calendar of the program ‘Sibiu, European Capital of Culture – 2007’ and is sponsored by a public-private partnership including private sponsors and Italy’s Embassy in Romania. According to the organisers of the event, the instrumental ensemble is made up of musicians of the La Scala Orchestra and Philharmonic. The ensemble was established in the late 1980s as a double quintet: a strings quintet (two violins, a viola, a cello and a double bass) and a quintet of wind instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn). Beginning with a Beirut concert, in January 1998, the ensemble was completed by a saxophone, piano, harmonica and percussion instruments. The ensemble built itself a reputation by performing a wide range of musical genres, from the classical repertoire to jazz, ethnic or new age music. The ensemble performs concerts both in Italy and abroad. The program includes works by G. Rossini, G. Bottesini, P. Morlacchi, N. Rota and L. Bernstein. It is worth noting that Italy’s Embassy in Romania has prepared eight projects for Sibiu in 2007, sponsored by the same public-private partnership, which covers several areas: music, theatre, visual arts etc. Among the projects to be presented in the European capital of culture, performances by Faber Teater and Sbandieratori di Gubbo (Flag Bearers).
