Basescu: There is no way for me to reconcile with Tariceanu - Versiune grafica
Bucharest – During an interview, to be published in the daily newspaper “Cotidianul” tomorrow, and previously presented on Realitatea TV yesterday, the head of the state said he sees no chance of reconciliation with Premier Calin Popescu Tariceanu.

The relations between the two have grown tense over the past year, culminating with the Democratic Party being removed from government, a decision for which the head of the cabinet made Basescu directly responsible. Asked whether there is any chance for him to make up with Premier Tariceanu, Basescu said: “We are the exponents of two trends that are diametrically opposed. In my relationship with the government and the Premier, I wanted the quick modernisation of the state yet what emerged was a Premier dependent on oligarchs’ influence. In this equation, reconciliation is out of question.” Basescu says that Romania may opt now to evolve in an oligarchic capitalism, which supposes the concentration of financial resources and political decisions in the hands of the rich and not of the voters.

The head of the state suggested that this would be the path chosen by Premier Tariceanu. Basescu would have preferred the oligarchs generated by transition had not interfered with political decision-making, the making of laws and of Government. “I would like these oligarchs to mind their business,” the head of the state said.

Basescu said he would not cease criticising Government, participating in the sessions of the Tariceanu Cabinet and therefore, exercising his presidential duties. “Government took a break for now,” Basescu said.
